By Wesley Chapel Living ·

Wesley Chapel residents who need to get rid of old paint, computer equipment or other household hazardous waste can use Pasco County's drop-off sites. This guide pulls together the location, hours, paint limit and exclusions published by Pasco County Government, so you can plan one trip instead of several. For more local resources, visit the residents page on this site.

Where to go

The county site nearest Wesley Chapel for household hazardous waste is the East Pasco Transfer Station, at 9626 Handcart Road, Dade City. Pasco County also lists West Pasco Resource Recovery, which shares the same published hours. The county describes its household hazardous waste centers as the places that take the materials covered below.

Because the East Pasco Transfer Station is the closest of the county sites for Wesley Chapel, it is the natural starting point. Enter the address into a map app before you leave so you arrive at the right entrance.

Hours

The East Pasco Transfer Station and West Pasco Resource Recovery are open Monday to Saturday, 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The county page does not list hours for Sunday in the information used for this guide, so plan your trip for one of the six days above and leave yourself time to get there before 4:30 p.m.

The county's garbage and recycling page is the official source for these hours and the address. Hours can change, so look at that page before you go.

Paint

Latex and oil-based paint are accepted at the county household hazardous waste centers at no charge, up to 30 gallons per day. That limit applies per day, so if you have a garage shelf full of half-used cans, count them up before you load the car.

  • Latex paint is accepted.
  • Oil-based paint is accepted.
  • There is no charge up to 30 gallons per day.

If you have more than that, see the section on larger loads below.

Electronics

The county's household hazardous waste page lists computer monitors, towers and laptops as accepted electronics. If you have an old desktop setup in a closet, the monitor and the tower are both on the accepted list, and so is a laptop.

The page does not list other kinds of electronics in the information used for this guide, so for anything beyond a monitor, tower or laptop, check the county page or call the number in the contact section before making the trip.

Larger loads

For larger loads of oil, flammable liquids or paint, call Pasco County Solid Waste at 727-847-2411, ext. 2046. A call ahead is the better choice if you are clearing out a garage, finishing a renovation or cleaning up after a project that left a lot of material behind. Ask about the load before you drive it to the site.

What is not accepted

The county household hazardous waste centers do not accept prescription medication or sharps. Do not bring either to the East Pasco Transfer Station expecting to hand them over. The county page in the information used for this guide does not say where to take them instead, so contact the county before deciding what to do with them.

A simple plan for your trip

  1. Sort what you have into paint, computers and anything else.
  2. Set aside any prescription medication or sharps, which the centers do not accept.
  3. Count your paint. Up to 30 gallons per day is free; for more, call first.
  4. Pick a day from Monday to Saturday and plan to arrive before 4:30 p.m.
  5. Drive to 9626 Handcart Road, Dade City.

Taking a few minutes to sort and count before you leave helps the visit go quickly and keeps you from making a second trip.
